the Lab
We are in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Current projects address phylogeny, polyploid evolution, and genetic diversity within and among populations. We use molecular data to study evolutionary questions, and are equipped for techniques commonly used in phylogenetic and population biology analyses, including PCR amplification, cloning, DNA sequencing, sequence data analysis, PCR fragment analysis, and restriction site analysis. (Visit the People in the Lab for details on specific projects.)

News Melissa successfully defended her M.S. thesis in May 2007. She has recently taken a position at Exelixis. Marianna successfully defended her Ph.D. thesis in September 2007, and gave her thesis seminar in October. She started a post-doc with the FDA in October. Diane passed her preliminary exam in July 2007, just before attending Botany 2007, and spent much of the summer in the field collecting Tilia. Mike passed his preliminary exam in October 2007. This year, he is funded by a Field Museum graduate student fellowship. Megan is spending some of her time between classes helping to start up a new research project in which we will look at gene expression in North American Elymus tetraploids. Mira joined the lab in fall 2007. She is interested is polyploid evolution, and is currently working with Megan. |
