The System
Manager will help users of the General Clinical
Research Center (GCRC) to understand and use computers
and software more effectively for the conduct of patient
oriented research. She will assist researchers with
protocols database design, protocol database execution,
and offer technical training to all investigators and
staff. The primary goal is to completed protocol and
a better understanding of data management that can be
carried over into the next protocol.
Investigators and their assistants may receive
educational assistance from the System Manager
in two primary ways. First, the System Manager
will present didactic information about computer-based
clinical research resources as part of the clinical
research training curriculum being offered by
GCRC. Second, the System Manager will be available
by appointment to provide training to individual
investigators or other personnel affiliated
with a protocol approved by the GCRC Scientific
Advisory Committe. Should demand for certain
types of training among several investigators
coincide, the System Manager will arrange workshops
for training.
Investigators may work at workstations in close proximity
to the System Manager. During initial familirization
with database development or database execution, the
System Manager can provide direct guidance at the workstation.
In later phases, the investigators can work independently
from their office personal computer.
