The Neurobiology Group at UIC studies nervous system function and the physiological basis of behavior. Current research foci include synaptic function, sensorimotor integration, perception, learning and memory. Questions range in scale from molecular interactions to how behavior is shaped by environmental, genetic and evolutionary influences. A wide variety of invertebrate and vertebrate systems are used, and experimental approaches include biochemistry, molecular genetics, immunocytochemistry, light and electron microscopy, physiological imaging, electrophysiology, quantitative behavioral analysis and high speed videography.

All of the Neurobiology faculty are also part of the Laboratory of Integrative Neuroscience. The LIN is a unit of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago. It brings together faculty, postdoctural fellows and students from Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Philosophy and Psychology. They are engaged in research and scholarship on Synaptic biology, perception, mind, bioethics, sensorimotor integration and learning & memory.

The graduate program in neurobiology offers a comprehensive curriculum that emphasizes original research and prepares students for research, teaching, and careers in academic, professional, governmental, and industrial settings.
