BACKGROUND

The growth of world population and economic standard increases the consumption of energy. Since the amount of available conventional energy resources become scarcer with time, development of new or renewable energy technologies and improvement of conventional technologies are needed to fulfill the energy demand in the future. A good understanding of the mechanisms involved in every step of energy transformations from the primary to the end-use forms of energy is needed for both the improvements and innovations of the technology. This conference provides an opportunity for exchanging information among researchers working on fluid and thermal energy conversion problems.

The first International Conference on Fluid and Thermal Energy Conversions was held in December 1994 in Kuta, Bali attended by participants from more than 30 countries. The participants agreed to hold the conference regularly in Indonesia every three years. Hence, the second, third, and fourth Conferences were held in Yogyakarta (July 1997), Bandung (July 2000), and Sanur-Bali (December 2003), respectively. All conferences were attended by more than 100 participants from around the world.

SCOPE

Papers describing current research on fluid and thermal energy conversion science and technology are hereby solicited, including:

Heat and Mass Transfer
Thermodynamics
Fluid Mechanics
Thermal Energy Conversion Systems:
- fundamental
- power plants (gas, oil, coal, nuclear),
- direct energy conversion (DEC).
Hydropower and Fluid Machinery
Technology of energy resource exploitation and processing:
- petroleum technology (piping, EOR, refineries, etc.),
- gas technology (transport, storage, etc.),
- oil shale and tar sand technology,
- coal technology (gasification/liquefaction, slurries, etc.).
Energy management and optimization:
- industrial energy analysis,
- pinch technique application,
- energy policy (national, global, CDM)
Refrigeration:
- alternative non-CFC refrigerant, natural refrigerant,
- refrigeration machine, heat pumps, etc.
New and renewable energy:
- solar energy, wind energy, OTEC, biomass energy
- geothermal, clean coal technology (CCT)
- hydrogen, etc
Nanotechnology

Language

Extended abstracts and papers should be written in English. Accordingly, English will be used for the presentation of papers in sessions.

Selection of Papers

Paper selection will be based on reviewing 2 to 3 pages of extended abstracts that include research background, results and conclusions. The extended abstracts should be submitted before April 30, 2006. A copy of the abstract is required for reviewed by The International Scientific Committee. Authors will be notified of the acceptance of their abstracts according to timetable listed below. Upon acceptance of the abstracts, mats and typing instruction will be sent to the authors. Camera-ready copies of the final manuscript are due on August 31, 2006.

OTHER PROGRAMS

Workshops

The committee plans to arrange several one-day workshops during the conference days. Workshop topics related to the conference are invited. Please contact the FTEC’2006 secretary, Dr. Ir. Nathanael P. Tandian for more details if you wish to make a workshop

Exhibition

Limited space will be provided during the conference for displaying instruments, books, journals, etc. Indoor raw space of 2 m x 2.5 m and 4 m x 2.5 m will be available.
