On October 15, 2009, the UIC College of Liberal Arts and Sciences hosted "LAS Comes to NYC" in New York City. The evening brought together LAS alumni from the New York City area to share college news, establish camaraderie among alumni in the area and bring an LAS presence to the Big Apple. Hosted by Dean Dwight A. McBride, PhD, Richard Massey '68 BS, '75 MS, '75 PhD and Howard Kauffman '82 BA, the event was an amazing success. Nearly 30 LAS alumni gathered at the event to swap stories and share memories of their LAS years, as well as to share more recent news about their lives since graduation over appetizer and drinks at 24 Prince (a popular restaurant in SoHo owned by Top Chef's Nikki Cascone).
The group was as diverse as the College itself, its members having careers in library science, information technology, business, higher education, government, bio-technology, public interest, film and more. "LAS Comes to NYC" was the first of many regional events to be held in New York and at other sites around the country as the College plans to reconnect and gather together LAS alumni so that they may share their memories, experiences and successes with us and with each other.
