Asian American Studies at UIC
Asian American Studies examines the histories, experiences, and cultures of Asians in the Americas, including East Asians, South Asians and Southeast Asians. It is an interdisciplinary field of study that has made significant research contributions in the areas of immigration and social history, theories of race and ethnicity, gender and sexuality studies, literary and cultural studies, public policy, labor and law.

ASAM 105: Seminar in Asian American Studies
Topic: “Asian American Identity Formation:” This course will explore multiple Asian American issues regarding identity and what impacts its formation. The course will discuss Asian American stereotypes, family/generational conflict, religion, gender, and leadership. This will be accomplished by critically examining historical events, the media, popular culture, and personal narratives to study how society's perceptions of and individual’s Asian American identities are formed. By looking at the social, academic, and community issues that impact Asian Americans, we will further our collective understanding of Asian American identity.
