Undergraduate Majors and Curricula Offered in LAS
LAS offers a large number of majors and specialized curricula that lead to
either the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree.
In addition, students can complement their major field of study with preprofessional
study where the professional career goal is dentistry, law, medicine, occupational
therapy, physical therapy, or veterinary medicine. Students planning to enter
a UIC professional program that does not first require completion of an undergraduate
degree may follow the prescribed preprofessional
curriculum and apply directly to the UIC professional program. These curricula
include: pre-elementary education, pre-health information management, pre-human
nutrition, prenursing, prepharmacy, and pre-social work. In addition, students
may follow a pre-engineering curriculum in LAS intended for students who decide
late on a career as an engineer. Majors can be declared at the department office
offering the major. Students should meet regularly with an academic advisor
in the major department as well as with advisors in the LAS Academic Advising
Center.
Four Year Model Plans of study are available for each of the majors (except secondary education majors) at http://www.uic.edu/las/college/info/fymp/
The following majors and specialized curricula are available to LAS students.
* These majors require departmental approval before a student
can be accepted into the program. Some departments require certain prerequisite
courses and grade point averages and/or interviews for admission to a
major. Students should consult the department during their first term
for specific information.
