ACE offers a variety of programs designed to assist you in improving your skills
in the areas of study strategies, test taking, avoiding procrastination, or
dealing with test anxiety and course anxiety. ACE also offers help with skills
in math, sciences, English, and reading through a computer lab software program
that assesses your skill level and places you in the correct tutorial program
to increase your skills. In addition, Academic Skills Program (ASP) courses
are offered during the fall and spring semesters to help you with reading, writing,
critical thinking skills, study strategies, and vocabulary (including courses
in many of these same areas if English is your second language). You may drop
in for individual sessions with counselors for assistance in studying more effectively,
dealing with anxiety and stress from course work, or other academic skills concerns.
Appointments can be made by calling 413-0031. In addition, supplemental instruction
is offered for several specific courses each semester.
ACE offers a series of workshops throughout each semester on both East and
West campuses. These programs deal with general study strategies, time management,
critical reading, memory, test-taking strategies, anxiety reduction, math strategies,
writing, and overcoming self-defeating behavior. Information about upcoming
workshops is available on the ACE Web site, http://study.ace.uic.edu;
by calling ACE at 413-0031; and in flyers posted around campus.
