A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR
The Humanities Laboratory is a brand new idea and a new undertaking.
In a nutshell, our primary mission is to further collaborative and
innovative work in the humanities. When we think of the humanities
we tend to think of the traditional disciplines centering on the skills
of interpretation, from history to literary criticism to art history and musicology,
yet the humanities also serve within professional education, especially at
the University of Illinois at Chicago in the school of Medicine
and the Department of Disability Studies.
The Humanities Laboratory will be the home for research and teaching across the disciplines.
Our goal is to develop human capital for the next generation of humanities scholars.
In projects sponsored by the Humanities Laboratory, students and faculty from
different disciplines will work together on joint projects that could only
be undertaken by scholars with different sets of skills and backgrounds.
We are just beginning this new adventure in education.
