2003 Fall Large Grants Competition
The Humanities Laboratory at UIC is committed to furthering collaborative research in the
Humanities, to increasing public accessibility to the best scholarship in the Humanities,
and to training the next generation of Humanities professionals. To this end, we are making
a number of funding opportunities available for scholars from UIC community, whose research
meets the aims of our mission.
The Humanities Laboratory will be accepting grant proposals for the Fall Large Grants Competition
until Friday, October 10, 2003. An application
cover page
is available online and should be
accompanied by a project proposal of approximately 500 words as well as an itemized budget
(not to include personal salary).
The next competition will be announced in January, 2004.
The Humanities Laboratory does not sponsor individual lectures or academic conferences.
The Humanities Laboratory aims to:
- Find new models for the way knowledge is produced and presented in the Humanities.
- Promote collaborative, multi-disciplinary research projects that demonstrate a concern for
reaching out to the broader community in Chicago and the world.
- Support research projects that draw on the expertise of experienced professors while including
graduate and undergraduate students in the project, so that the project serves as an apprenticeship
and incorporates a mentoring function.
- Partner academics with leading public institutions, such as museums, libraries, cultural centers,
so that their research may be made accessible to a public audience.
- Encourage research projects that can span both traditional modes of presentation, such as books,
while also assuming the form of exhibitions, videos, CD Roms or employ other media for accessibility.
