Jeremy Varon to speak at the inaugural LAS Dean's Lectureship
At 11:30 am on Thursday, October 23, 2008, Jeremy Varon of Drew University will deliver, "Who's Still Afraid of the Sixties? The 1960s in Politics, Pedagogy, and Popular Culture," in Room 302 of Student Center East. Refreshments will follow this free and open event.
Series Examines Latino Political Activism of 1968
The Latin American and Latino studies program presents "1968 in Latin America and U.S. Latino Communities: Protest, Repression, and Exile," a free public series that includes a photo exhibit, panel discussions, and films. READ ON
Chemistry Professors Earn Grants from the National Institutes of Health
Tom Driver, assistant professor, and his research team have earned a five-year, $1.48 million grant to prove the effectiveness of a faster, cleaner, "greener" way to manufacture pharmaceutical drugs. READ ON
With the help of his own four-year, $1.16 million grant from the NIH, assistant professor Lawrence Miller will explore ways to tag single molecules within cells to better reveal the biological mechanisms. READ ON

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is currently
accepting nominations and applications for several open tenure-track
positions.
About LAS
The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences offers programs in the
humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences that enhance
the educational quality and depth of all undergraduate colleges on
campus. The largest of the colleges at UIC, LAS houses 21
departments and programs. They offer over 60 undergraduate major fields
of specialization, 40 minors, about 50 graduate
degrees at the masters and doctoral levels, and almost 1,100 courses.
Students from all undergraduate colleges and many
graduate programs enroll in LAS courses. Over 360 tenure track faculty
teach the college’s 9,400 undergraduate and
1,300 graduate students.
