Welcome to the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS) at UIC!

As you spend time here in our virtual world, no doubt you will begin to sense the enormous excitement of this special place where we are in the business of building brilliant futures.

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is the heart of this great university. With 21 departments, numerous interdisciplinary programs, over 10,500 students, and a full-time faculty of over 360, we are preparing students in a variety of areas to become global citizens for this new millennium.

We have committed ourselves to being a research university with a distinguished faculty making a first-rate education accessible to a diverse student population. Indeed, we are proud at UIC to be among the most diverse student bodies in the nation. Our faculty members are leaders in their research fields—winning awards, publishing in prestigious journals, and presenting cutting-edge research at important national and international scholarly meetings. And many LAS faculty and students are engaged in the various communities of Chicago through public service, programs that reach out to the public schools, and other initiatives that grow out of our Great Cities Commitment.

Exciting progress is abounding in LAS. I invite you to be part of it! Give to our ambitious Brilliant Futures Capital Campaign. Visit the campus to attend some of our many intellectually exciting events throughout the year. Hire an LAS student as an intern. And, of course, spread the word about our Brilliant Futures.
