Much of the day to day activity of the Jewish Studies Program at UIC revolves around our commitment and involvement not just to the university but also to Chicago's wider, and very diverse, Jewish community. Our speakers, symposia and conferences, and other programs are all free, public events designed to bridge the perennial gap between the classroom and the world beyond it - indeed, bringing the two in close proximity. Our goal is to locate UIC solidly as the center for Jewish Diaspora Studies in the Midwest. Thus, many of our events are held in the wider Chicagoland community.
