Rachael Havrelock 

Rachel Havrelock,assistant professor of English and Jewish Studies at UIC,
co-hosted a new Discovery Channel documentary entitled "Who Was Jesus?" and
contributed to the program's coverage of daily life in first century Palestine, early Christianity,
and the Jewish background of the Gospels and the Jesus movement.

The documentary is set to air in three consecutive one hour segments,
7 – 10 p.m. CDT, premiering on April 5, Palm Sunday. The segments will cover
Jesus' childhood, mission, and last days.

Elizabeth Loentz, Assistant Professor of Germanic Studies at UIC, will be

appeared on "Good Day Chicago" (Fox Chicago News WFLD-TV ch. 32) and
"The Roe Conn Show" (WLS 890-AM) to discuss plans that can help improve

Matthew R. Lippman, Professor of Jewish Studies and Criminal Justice at UIC
will be speaking at the Peace Palace in The Hague, The Netherlands at the
'Sixty Years Genocide Convention' on December 7th and 8th, 2008.  The title
of Professor Lippman's paper will be "Development and Drafting of the 1948
Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Genocide: The Politics of
Genocide Denial."

 

 

Jewish Studies Program Associate Director Nancy Gebhardt and her student Eugene
Liebenson are featured in the 2008 LAS Annual Fund Drive letter and brochure.
Eugene won the NSEP David L. Boren Undergraduate Scholarship supporting his study at
the Hebrew University in Jerusalem for the fall semester of 2008. In the alumni appeal
letter, Eugene stated that Nancy “pointed me in the right direction and supported my goals.
I have found that faculty and staff in LAS, like Nancy, really look out for students.”
Nancy is very proud of Eugene and of his appreciative comments.
