Major in Latin American and Latino Studies
For the Bachelor of Arts, 33 semester hours , as distributed below. In addition to the specified course work below, the student must fulfill certain other course requirements to be awarded the Bachelor of Arts degree. Required Courses for the Major
- LALS 101 and 102
- Three 200- level Courses
-LALS 301
-One additional course at the 100 or 200 level
-Two additional 300- level Courses
-Two 400- level Courses
-LALS 302 (required only for highest departamental destinction)

Minor in Latin American and Latino Studies
TOTAL HOURS 18 Distinction
To be considered for distinction, students must obtain a 3.00 cumulative grade point average, plus:
3.50 grade point average in the major for distinction;
3.75 grade point average in the major for high distinction;
3.75 grade point average in the major,
LALS 302 and complete a senior thesis for highest distinction.
For the minor:18 semester hours are required. Students from other disciplines who want
to minor in Latin American and Latino Studies must complete the following:
- LALS 101, 102
- Two courses at the 200 level or above on Latin America
- One courses at the 300 level or above on Hispanic/Latinos in the U.S.
- One course at the 400 level
