Pre-Health Professions Advising

Professional advisors assist students in understanding and fulfilling requirements for admission to various undergraduate, graduate and professional-level programs. Specifically, Pre-Health advisors disseminate information regarding curricula, course sequencing, application timelines and procedures in individual, group and workshop settings. Additionally, advisors are able to assist students in exploring their goals, motivations and competitiveness in the desired field.

The specific curricula for Pre-Health programs are designed to equip students with the necessary academic background and content specific knowledge to pursue professional goals for pre-baccalaureate or post-baccalaureate endeavors and, apply to the program of choice.

An educational goal, (i.e. Pre-Medicine, Pre-Nursing, etc.) will enable students to be included in Pre-Health related emails, including but not limited to updates regarding: course registration waitlists, workshops, campus speakers, professional school open houses, and scholarship opportunities. Students can request to have an educational goal listed on their school record by requesting the change on the Educational Goal page.

Students are encouraged to meet with LAS advisors to assist in planning and decision making toward all pre-professional interest areas.

Freshmen and sophomore students may see general LAS advisors for individual appointments and are encouraged to attend numerous workshops given by LAS Pre-Health advisors throughout the academic terms.

All students interested in nursing may request an individual appointment with a Pre-Nursing advisor once a semester.

Junior and senior students may request an individual appointment with a pre-health advisor once a semester. Students are highly encouraged to attend an application timeline workshop before making an appointment to get an overview of the necessary steps and procedures for the next two years.

For pre-health questions not needing a full appointment, pre-health advisors are available on a walk-in basis to answer quick questions or offer advice to a presented situation. Pre-health walk-in hours are on Tuesdays during fall and spring semesters from 8:30-9:30a.m. and 2:30-3:30p.m. These walk-in hours replace the Question/Answer Session previously offered on Wednesday afternoons.

Please see the information below regarding procedures for scheduling Pre-Health advising.
Students may call 312-996-3366 or come to the LAS Advising Office to make an appointment.

For general questions students may email prehealth@las.uic.edu and questions will be answered by a pre-health advisor. Questions regarding letters of recommendation can be addressed on the Letter of Recommendation page or by emailing phletters@las.uic.edu.
