PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
Milka Dokic joined the Section of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine in June of  2004. She performs specialized surgeries in rats and records the effects of drugs in rat models of sleep apnea. Her 25-year experience performing rat surgeries has contributed to the development of novel surgical approaches in pharmacologic identification of particular rat brain nuclei. She possesses valuable expertise in histological verification of the micropipette injections in the targeted brain areas.  Together with Dr. Irina Topchiy, they make a successful team for performing electrophysiological and pharmacological experiments related to the role of specific brain centers in breathing.
