RESEARCH/DISCOVERY
Dr. Jao’s research focuses on clinical data mining and analysis, clinical decision making, medical knowledge management in various clinical coding systems, rule-based expert systems and promoting patient safety by reducing errors in electronic medical records.  He is particularly interested in bringing health care providers high quality information systems for managing and supporting their works.  He is currently funded to develop an effective clinical decision support system focused on auditing the problem lists in the electronic medical record and maintaining problem-to-drug matches (National Patient Safety Foundation).  

PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
Dr. Jao has been a member of the faculty since 2007. He holds the licenses and copyrights of two developed software technologies related to clinical data retrieval and clinical decision supporting. Dr. Jao received his doctorate in computer science from the Illinois Institute of Technology and has received his Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE) professional certificate from UIC. His doctoral research was "Medical expert system."

SERVICE/PRACTICE

Dr. Jao is an active member of the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) and Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) and has been invited to review manuscripts for the AMIA and Medical Informatics Europe.
