PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
Julie Law joined the Section of Pulmonary, Critical Care, Sleep and Allergy in March of 2005. She has coordinated several studies, including a validation study comparing breathing-event detection between clinical polysomnography and the Respironics REMstar Pro M Series continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machine, as well as two studies involving trial medications for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Ms. Law will coordinate two upcoming studies, one examining the effects of CPAP on glucose control in subjects with type 2 diabetes, and the other investigating the use of a new drug treatment for OSA. As a Research Specialist, Ms. Law recruits, screens, and follows subjects through all phases of a clinical trial, and in the process makes it a priority to get to know her subjects personally. She strives to put her subjects at ease by patiently addressing all their concerns and assisting them if they plan on seeking treatment following their study participation. Before coming to UIC, she coordinated clinical trials investigating new drug treatments for lung cancer at Northwestern University's Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center, and prior to that assisted with Alzheimer's research studies at the Rush Alzheimer's Disease Center and the Chicago Center for Clinical Research (now Radiant Research).
