How to find us:

From the main entrance to the College of Nursing Building, take the lobby elevators to the second floor. Turn to the right off the elevators and then immediately left down the corridor. The Center administrative and faculty offices are on the left at the end of the hallway.

David W. Carley, PhD - Professor and Director

Dr. Carley has been a member of the Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine faculty at UIC since 1986. Trained as an engineer, he has also been a Professor of Bioengineering since 1997 and was named as Director of the Center for Narcolepsy, Sleep and Health research in November of 2005. His training was completed at Stony Brook University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard Medical School.

Mary C. Kapella, PhD, RN - Assistant Professor and Associate Director of Outreach and Education

Dr. Kapella has been a member of the Biobehavioral Health Science faculty at the UIC College of Nursing since 2004. Her clinical background is cardiopulmonary critical care nursing and she received her MS and PhD in nursing at UIC. Dr. Kapella was appointed Associate Director for Outreach and Education at the Center for Narcolepsy, Sleep and Health Research in 2007. Her research interest is insomnia and non-pharmacological therapies for sleep disturbance in chronic illness.

Julie Law, BS - Center Administrator

Julie Law has been a Research Specialist in the field of Sleep Medicine at UIC since 2005. She is also a point of contact for inquiries to the Center for Narcolepsy, Sleep and Health Research and a board member for the Midwest Narcolepsy Support Group.
