 To see more photos from Alumni Day click here. The first UIC College of Alumni Day celebration was held on Saturday, April 21, 2012 in the newly renovated third floor event space at the College. More than 100 alums from Illinois and states across the country - including California, Texas, Missouri, Wisconsin, and Georgia - took part in this special event. Silvia Cassiani, MS '84, and her husband even flew in from Brazil! Graduates from the Class of 1968 to the Class of 2011 were represented. On Saturday morning, guests stepped off the elevator onto the third floor of the College where they were greeted by PhD student Leslie Moore and a life-size photograph mural of ten smiling women dressed in caps and gowns, arms linked and diplomas in-hand, confidently striding down Navy Pier-our first graduating class of 1953! The event began with Dean Terri E. Weaver and College of Nursing Alumni Board President, Sabina Dambrauskas, MS '76, BSN, '78, welcoming everyone back to the College. Guests were then introduced to three current students in the BSN, GEP, and PhD programs who shared observations on life as a nursing student today.
Then, College of Nursing faculty and alumnae Tonda Hughes, PhD '89, Barbara McFarlin PhD '05, MS '84, BSN '74, and Mariann Piano, PhD '88, MS '84, gave lively and timely presentations about their research in mental health, women's health and biobehavioral science.
After a catered lunch, Dean Emerita Mi Ja Kim presented an update on the College's numerous global health programs, and Susan Ohlson, PhD '10, brought the group up-to-date on the faculty/nurse-managed clinical practice sites that provide primary care to the underserved throughout Chicago.
Finally, Dean Weaver shared her vision for the College going forward and presented certificates to those in the audience who were celebrating their 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 40, and 45 year reunions!
After celebrating the anniversaries, Nancy Herman, director of advancement, and Sabina Daumbrauskas raffled off beautiful gift baskets donated by Mary Doherty, BSN '80, and hotel gift certificates provided by Maureen Smith MS '10. The day ended with class photos, and tours of the sleep research lab and the Midwest Nursing History Center.
Thanks to everyone who participated and made our inaugural Alumni Day a huge success! Look for announcements for the 2nd Annual Nursing Alumni Day (tentatively scheduled for April 2013), later this year.
