Cardew-Mullane Award in Clinical Excellence and Leadership

Description

Established by Mary Kelly Mullane, former dean of the College of Nursing, this award recognizes outstanding clinical skill and leadership abilities in graduating students. The award also serves as a memorial to Emily Cardew, the first dean of the college. More than one student can win this cash award, which is sponsored by the College of Nursing Alumni Association & Sigma Theta Tau, International and is customarily given at the May commencement.

Selection Criteria

1. Must be nominated by faculty, staff, alumni, or peers.
2. Graduating student in the undergraduate or graduate program from the summer, fall, or spring classes.
3. At least two (2) letters of support, one from a clinical instructor, must accompany a student's nomination. Please have these letters forwarded to nherman@uic.edu. The letters should address the student's:

Clinical Excellence — clinical practice:

• Exceeds course expectations or is considered outstanding
• Is innovative
• Serves as a model
• Is collaborative and interdisciplinary in nature
• Incorporates patient/family/community
• Shows exceptional caring
• Demonstrates exceptional decision-making
• Is research-based

Leadership Abilities:

• Involved in extra curricular activities that promote nursing/nursing practice
• Evidence of leadership roles
• Evidence of community membership/service
• Future plans include the potential for leadership
