Office of the Dean
College of Nursing Annual Fund
Unrestricted support for student scholarships, enhanced learning and research opportunities, and funding creative initiatives that benefit students and the academic experience.
Nursing Dean’s Scholarship Endowment Fund
Supports student scholarships in the College of Nursing.
Emily C. Cardew Dean's Fund
Awarded to undergraduates of junior or senior status who exhibit high scholastic achievement. Established in honor of the late Emily Cardew, the first Dean of the UIC College of Nursing.
Midwest Nursing History Resource Center
Support for the Midwest Nursing History Resource Center including, but not limited to, the advancement of historical research and/or scholarly activities consistent with the purpose of the Midwest Nursing History Resource Center.
College of Nursing Alumni Association Endowed Scholarship
Awarded to one undergraduate student and one graduate student who has demonstrated leadership and service to the school, profession, and community, with secondary consideration given to academic standing and financial need. Established by the UIC College of Nursing Alumni Association.
Cardew-Mullane Award for Clinical Excellence and Leadership
Awarded to one or more graduating students who have demonstrated excellence in the clinical setting. Established by the late Dean Emily Cardew and endowed by the late Dean Mary Kelly Mullane.
Jean Christenson Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund
Awarded annually to two undergraduate students based on financial need and good academic standing. Established by Robert Christenson, in memory of his mother, Jean Christenson, who was a nurse. Dorothy J. Dethloff Scholarship Fund
Awarded to undergraduates based on financial need and academic merit.
Elizabeth M. Roche Memorial Scholarship Fund
Awarded to graduate students in good standing. Established by Arlene and John Norsym in memory of John Norsym's sister, Elizabeth Roche.
Joan Syer-Bailar Scholarship Fund
Awarded annually to undergraduate students, preference to minority students. Established by Joan Syer-Bailar.
Kathryn Venolia Memorial Scholarship Fund
Awarded to one or more seniors in Nursing or Medicine with an outstanding academic record and contributions to school and/or community. Established as a memorial to Kathryn Venolia, granddaughter of Charles J. and Ethel S. Merriam.
Gertrude Hess Nursing Scholarships
Awarded to College of Nursing Students based on financial need.
Established by the Estate of Louise H. Landau in memory of Gertrude Hess.
Regional Scholarships
Regional Nursing Scholarship Fund
Awarded to students from the regional campuses (Peoria, Quad Cities, Rockford, Urbana-Champaign). Established by alumni from the regional programs in 1994 and fully endowed in 1995 with a generous gift from a regional faculty member and her husband.
Lisa Corsini Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to undergraduate nursing students enrolled at the Urbana-Champaign campus with preference to students whose legal residence is either the State of Illinois or Italy and who demonstrate a passion for nursing, financial need, and academic merit. Established in 2002 to honor the memory of Lisa Corsini, a nursing student in the Urbana Champaign Regional Program, by her family and friends.

Awarded to students in the Urbana regional program.
Quad Cities Classic Nursing Scholarship Fund
Awarded to students in the Quad Cities regional program.
Norma R. Kelly Peoria Nursing Scholarship Fund
Awarded to students in the Peoria regional program. Established by Dr. Norma R. Kelly, former Peoria Regional Program director, and others.
Kellogg Family Fund
Awarded to students in the Peoria regional program.
Established by Robah Kellogg, long-time member of the Peoria Regional Program faculty, and others.
Research Funds
College of Nursing Research in Narcolepsy, Sleep and Health Research Fund
The Center for Narcolepsy, Sleep and Health Research (formerly the Center for Narcolepsy) conducts important basic, clinical and bio-behavioral research for improving, preserving or promoting health through good sleep, and provides support for narcoleptics and their families.
Seth D. Rosen Memorial Research Award
Awarded to graduate students to be used towards their research endeavors. Established in memory of Seth Rosen, the late husband of Denise Rosen
Sobotka, long time staff member at the College.
Harriet H. Werley Endowed Chair in Nursing Research
Established by the late Dr. Harriet H. Werley, Professor Emerita, to provide leadership in Nursing Research at the College.
Global Health Leadership Office
Beverly J. McElmurry Scholarship Fund
Awarded to PhD candidates with a past record of nursing leadership and strong evidence of a research focus appropriate to global health concerns, preference to international students. Established in 2004 to honor Professor Beverly J. McElmurry for her contributions to the nursing profession locally and globally.
Virginia M. Ohlson International Studies Fund
Provides scholarships for international students and support for the Annual World Health Day Symposia. Established by Virginia M. Ohlson, former Dean and founder of the Office for International Studies at the UIC College of Nursing.
Chieko Onoda Endowed Scholarship Fund
Awarded to graduate students, preference to international students who are residents of the Southeast Asian nations. Established to honor Professor Chieko Onoda for her work on behalf of the international students at the College of Nursing.
Minu K. and Mehroo Patel Nursing Advancement Endowment for India
Awarded to graduate students who plan to return to India to work as educators in advanced nursing education programs; to provide funding to nurse-educators from India to visit the College as short term or special study scholars; and to provide funding to nurse-educators from the College to visit India to conduct research and training. Established and endowed in 2005 by Professor Minu and Dr. Mehroo Patel.

Lillian Runnerstrom Institute for Excellence Fund
Provides scholarships and support to initiatives within the Department of Maternal Child Nursing. Established by Lillian Runnerstrom, former maternal-child department head.
Mitzi Duxbury Scholarship Fund
Awarded to students in the Department of Maternal Child Nursing. Established by Mitzi Duxbury, former Dean.
The Mitzi L. Duxbury Graduate Student Award in Memory of Dr. Alexander Schmidt
Awarded to graduate students in the Department of Maternal Child Nursing. Established by Mitzi Duxbury, former Dean, in memory of Dr. Alexander (Mack) Schmidt, who served as Vice Chancellor for Health Services.
Sabina’s Nurse Midwifery Endowed Scholarship Fund
Awarded to students in the Nurse Midwifery program. Established by Sabina Dambrauskas, an educator and a nurse midwife throughout her career.
Janet Engstrom Scholarship in Maternal-Child Health Fund
Awarded to students in the Department of Maternal Child Nursing. Established in 2005 by the Maternal Child faculty to honor Dr. Engstrom, who has been instrumental in building up the midwifery and women’s health programs at UIC CON.
Craig and Sarah Allen Fund in Memory of Hal Gold
Awarded to students in the Nurse Midwifery program. Established by Craig and Sarah Allen in memory of Hal Gold.
Joyce Roberts Midwifery Scholarship Fund
Awarded to students in the Nurse Midwifery program. Established in honor of Dr. Joyce Roberts, former Director of the Nurse Midwifery Program and Department Head of Maternal-Child Nursing.
The Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Scholarship
Awarded to students in the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner program.
Department of Medical Surgical Nursing
Wilkie-Lawrence Endowed Scholarship for Palliative Care and Cancer Nursing
Awarded to students in the Advanced Practice Palliative Care Nurse Certificate Program. Established by Dr. Diana Wilkie and the Lawrence family.
Ujima-Eva Smith Endowed Scholarship
Awarded to students pursuing a career in nursing who may have initiated a first career or may have been a student in another discipline, and are returning to complete studies with a major in nursing.
Marguerite A. Dixon Award Fund
Awarded to PhD graduate students with outstanding academic performances, preference to students of African-American descent.
Department of Public Health, Mental Health and Administrative Nursing
Gloria A. Henderson Scholarship
Awarded to an undergraduate of junior or senior status enrolled at the Chicago
campus with high scholastic achievement and exhibited leadership in extracurricular
activities. Established by Professor Emerita Gloria Henderson.
