Advanced Practice Cardiometabolic Nursing Certificate

Certificate Requirements

In order to receive the Advanced Practice Cardiometabolic Nursing Certificate, students must complete the following courses:

NUEL 516 Cardiometabolic Risk Factors and Disease Development
Prepares the student to assess and manage cardiometabolic risk factors and diseases that include dyslipidemia, overweight and obesity, hypertension, and cardiometabolic syndrome (online)

NUEL 517 Metabolic Disturbances in Older Adults
Prepares the student to assess and manage metabolic disturbances that result in common and complex geriatric syndromes (online)

NUEL 518 Advanced Diabetes Management
Provides the student with in-depth knowledge regarding the management of diabetes mellitus and complications (online)

The courses can be taken in any sequence. See the Schedule of Classes for course offerings. No transfer credit will be accepted toward the certificate.

Academic Policies

Students in the APCN Certificate are held to the academic policies of the UIC College of Nursing, which state that students are expected to maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 (“B” average) throughout the program. See the Academic Standards and Policies—Graduate section of the College of Nursing Student Handbook for more information. Students wishing to transfer academic credit earned in the certificate program to a graduate degree program must receive a minimum grade of “B” in each course to be transferred.

Additional Requirements

  • May meet in Chicago twice a semester for two of the three online courses
  • Computer and Internet access

Upon completion of the program, students will receive a certificate from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
