About the Center
Mission Statement
Through the center our mission is to influence positively the health and well being of diverse groups of women, particularly those experiencing multiple forms of chronic illness or challenges to their health associated with pregnancy. We do this by engaging in path finding scientific inquiry and disseminating leading edge knowledge to women, colleague scientists and clinicians as well as policy makers.
Current center emphases related to the health and well being of women include:
- Symptom expression and management of fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome
- Physical activity for health promotion/disease prevention
- Manifestations and prevention of cardiovascular disease and cancer
- Health challenges related to immigration and cultural change
- Sleep loss and disruption
- Lesbian sexual orientation and health risks
- Risky sexual behaviors
- Facilitating healthy pregnancies
- Preventing premature labor and birth
