Research / Discovery
Dr. Collins’s area of research focuses on the use of physical activity to improve quality of life in people with chronic illness. Her research interests include pulmonary and vascular rehabilitation, physical activity, and functional capacity measurement. She has been the principal investigator on a number of federally funded grants. Dr. Collins is also a Research Career Scientist at the Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital, where her research laboratory is located.

Teaching / Learning
Dr. Collins teaches a grant writing course in the doctoral program and has taught pathophysiology to undergraduate students. In addition, she works with students and faculty members in the development of their research.

Serving / Practice
Dr. Collins has served on a number of scientific review sections for the Department of Veterans Affairs and NIH. She is an active member of the American Thoracic Society and American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation. In addition, she is active in a variety of college and university committees.
