Research / Discovery
Dr. Kapella's research focuses on fatigue and insomnia in people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. She is currently investigating a cognitive behavioral therapy for people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease who have problems falling asleep or staying asleep.

Teaching / Learning
Dr. Kapella serves as a research mentor to students at the master's and doctoral levels.

Service / Practice
Dr. Kapella is a member of the American Thoracic Society and American Lung Association of Metropolitan Chicago Nursing Assembly, the Midwest Nursing Research Society, Sigma Theta Tau, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and the Sleep Research Society. She is also a member of Zonta International, an organization focused on elevating the status of women around the world.

Personal
She loves to read, play with her grandchildren and travel--especially to the desert, the mountains, and the ocean.
