Research / Discovery
Dr. Hamilton's research is focused in two areas: 1) the long-term psychosocial impact of living with predictive genetic test results in individuals at risk for hereditary breast and ovarian cancer (HBOC) and 2) decision making in young women ages 18-39 years old who have received BRCA mutation test results and face many complex health care decisions as a result of their genetic test.

She is also interested in grounded theory as a method and the development of new sampling and interviewing techniques. She has recruited from the internet and interviewed via email.

Teaching / Learning
Dr. Hamilton has taught Introduction to Clinical Genetics courses for nurses and other health care providers at the undergraduate and graduate level. She has also contributed to ethics classes addressing the issues raised by genetics in medicine. She has also addressed several graduate research classes on grounded theory, internet recruitment and email interviewing techniques.

Service / Practice
Dr. Hamilton has worked with the FORCE (Facing our risk of cancer empowered) internet support/educational group on the international and local level. This group is specific for individuals who have a hereditary risk for early onset breast cancer and ovarian cancer.

Personal
Dr. Hamilton's two children (Rachel and Christopher) and their spouses (Ryan and Vicki) live in Dallas , TX . Her partner, Norma Jackson is a FNP and a Manager of Operations for Minute Clinic which is the retail primary care clinic in CVS Stores. Their two long-hair standard dachshunds, Bouie and Penn, are happy to be Chicago Dogs!! Her family loves Chicago!
