Research / Discovery
Research interests include forensic nursing and corrections medicine.Other interests that are currently on hold involve farmers, farm injuries and child safety on the farm.
Teaching / Learning
Tanya is c urrently teaching clinical coursework for the Family Practice Nurse Practitioner Program. She is also a clinical preceptor for nurse practioner students enrolled in a variety of specialty programs. Tanya aslo serves as a clinical/didactic instructor for UIC College of Medicine, Corrections Medicine Selective for fourth year medical students. She precepts for students enrolled in the Avanced Practice Forensic Nursing Program. She is involved in teaching a rotation in Corrections Medicine for the UIC College of Medicine Family Practice Residents. Tanya speaks at events on various topics related to delivering health care to inmates/Corrections Medicine.She volunteers for the National Commission on Correctional Health Care as a proctor for the national certification exam for Correctional Health Professional (CCHP).
Service / Practice
Tanya is currently practicing as a nurse practitioner with UIC College of Medicine inside of the Winnebago County Jail. She examines and treats male and female inmates of all security levels as part of a university contract. This is the second largest county jail in the state of Illinois. Recently, she completed the Advanced Practice Forensic Nursing Certificate Program at UIC. She is currently a student in the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program at UIC with an anticipated gradualtion date of May 2013. Clinical interest for residency will focus on forensic nursing. Tanya is an active member of Sigma Theta Tau, International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN) and Academy of Correctional Health Professionals (ACHP). Prior to advanced practice nursing her experience was in the operating room. She became certified in the operating room and was incharge of orthopedics and neurosurgery.
Personal
Tanya is a proud mother of 5 children. They are her main focus and joy. She is an active Girl Scout Leader for Troop #3384 with the Northern Illinois Council. Enjoys artwork, painting and drawing when given the opportunity, with an occassional wall mural. It is not uncommon to find a newly painted wall mural inside one of the jail offices. Her current office in the jail features a window with an outside view painted on canvas.She also enjoys gardening.
