Research / Discovery
Dr. Fitzpatrick is recognized as an expert in nursing human capital optimization; specifically the analysis of nursing workload and the development of evidence based staffing standards, policies, and models that support excellence. Her current work is focused on the use of mathematical optimization and economic modeling on the prediction of demand for nurses, development of staffing strategies, and the effective deployment of staff. Additionally, her current work is focused on healthcare entrepreneurism.

Teaching / Learning
Dr. Fitzpatrick teaches administrative and leadership graduate courses; specifically in human resource management and healthcare finance.

Service / Practice
Dr. Fitzpatrick coordinates the consulting practice within the College of Nursing's Institute for Health Care Innovation. She consults nationally on issues related to finance, workforce planning, nurse scheduling and staffing issues, process improvement, labor relations, and recruitment and retention. She is active in the American Organization of Nurse Executives and serves on the editorial board for Nursing Economics.
