Program Overview
FNP Program Study Options
The Family Nurse Practitioner study option builds on knowledge of health assessment, physiology, pharmacology, health promotion, disease prevention, and management of episodic and chronic diseases typically encountered in primary care settings. Clinical experiences are offered in a variety of primary health care settings, community health centers, family practice clinics, schools, and industries.
The FNP option can be executed through several programs:
Graduate Entry Program (GEP) - this program is designed for applicants with a degree in another field. After successful completion of the RN licensing exam (NCLEX-RN), students may begin Master's coursework in the FNP program. Admission Criteria | Degree Requirements | How to Apply
Masters Degree in Nursing (MS) -
this program prepares students to become highly skilled, competent advanced practice nurses (APN) in clinical specialties such as FNP, nurse leaders in administration or community leaders. The program emphasizes vulnerable populations, evidence-based practice, and scholarly activity.

Post-Masters (FNP-PM) -
this program is for students with a master's degree in nursing who want to advance their knowledge within a specialty area such as FNP. Post-master's study prepares you to sit for the certification exam in the selected area. Length of program can vary depending on your past education.
Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) - this program is designed to prepare nursing leaders at the highest level of professional nursing practice. Students may enter the DNP program through the MS to DNP option or the BSN to DNP option. Each option applies Master's core and FNP specialty courses toward DNP credit requirements.
