Welcome to the UIC Family Nurse Practitioner Program Website!
Family Nurse Practitioners (FNPs) are the largest nurse practitioner specialty, comprising over 40% of all nurse practitioners in the United States. They focus on health promotion and disease prevention beginning in childhood and continuing throughout the lifespan, and they are prepared to diagnose and manage the common acute and chronic diseases seen in primary care.
The FNP program at the University of Illinois at Chicago is a clinical specialty option in the Public Health Nursing (PHN) program within the Department of Health Systems Science. The FNP graduate of this program has a strong background in population-focused assessment and health program planning development in addition to thorough preparation as a provider of evidence-based primary care. A strong research base developed throughout the program provides the foundation for defining and analyzing interventions for improved health outcomes at the the individual, family, and community level.
The FNP program curriculum is based on the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties core competencies and standards of the American Nurses Credentialing Center. For more information, please contact us.
