International Scholars: Degree Seeking International Students

Academic Program Options

Graduate education in nursing is built on the baccalaureate degree with an upper-division major in nursing. The Department of Nursing Sciences offers Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing (PhD) programs that emphasize research, theory and practice.

Applicants are evaluated on the basis of multiple indicators of ability. Evidence of past leadership, research, and ability to communicate in English are three important criteria.

In addition to the degree granting programs, the College of Nursing offers Special Studies programs for Nurse Scholars from outside the United States who desire advanced study, but for various reasons may not wish to earn a degree. These programs can include non-degree for academic credit and noncredit activities designed to meet specific requests for study and observation at the College of Nursing . A faculty advisor assists in planning a special program of study in the selected areas to meet individual goals.

Additionally, the College of Nursing welcomes post-doctoral visiting scholars and plans individualized programs for them on request. Visit the UIC International Applicant Admissions website for more information.

Fees are charged for non-degree study and vary according to the program planned.
