About Chieko Onoda

There are so many ways that Ms. Onoda has left her mark on the nursing profession. A graduate of the Cook County School of Nursing in 1947, Ms. Onoda has been tireless in her efforts to help others. She worked for many years as a school nurse in Northwest Indiana. In 1972 (at a stage when most people consider themselves "settled" in their careers) Ms. Onoda graduated from the University of Colorado as one of the first pediatric nurse practitioners in the country. In her international travels, she has written extensively and presented information on the role of the pediatric nurse practitioner in furthering the health of children.
We at the Global Health Leadership Office are most grateful to Ms. Onoda for her work with the international students who have studied with us. Time and again, she has reached out to welcome scholars who found themselves in a foreign culture far from home. As a mentor, teacher, and nurturer, Ms. Onoda has made a significant contribution to the success of our students.
