About Chicago Health Corps: An AmeriCorps*National Direct Program

The Chicago Health Corps (CHC) is an AmeriCorps*National Direct program in partnership with the National Health Corps established in 1994 by the Corporation for National & Community Service in partnership with the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) of the U.S. Public Health Service. The National Health Corps consists of four sites ( Chicago , Philadelphia , Pittsburgh , and Jacksonville ).

CHC members will participate in a variety of topics such as, health education and outreach in asthma, nutrition, tobacco prevention/cessation, HIV/AIDS, STI/STDs, immunizations, proper hygiene and literacy to families, students, parents, and teachers. Other positions may include program development in advocacy for school health centers, access to care, health literacy, and community safety. Members gain experience from working in a range of community organizations, health centers and schools, and throughout the year they are exposed to various health careers and educational opportunities.

Members work in various communities throughout Chicago, including Logan Square, Humboldt Park, North Lawndale, Englewood, Uptown, West Town, and others.
