Alvie Griffin Bailey Award

New CON Leadership
Congratulations to Dr. Julie Zerwic who has been named the new Interim Executive Associate Dean, Dr. Mariann Piano who has been named the Interim Department Head, Biobehavioral Health Science Department and Dr. Tonda Hughes who has been named the new Interim Department Head, Health Systems Science Department.

College of Nursing Interim Dean Announced
Dr. Mi Ja Kim has been named Interim Dean of the College of Nursing. Please see Provost Tanner's announcement here.

Alicia Matthews received a two year R21 from NINR entitled Development of a Culturally Targeted Patient Navigation Curriculum for LGBT Adults. The study will take place at the Howard Brown Health Center.

Michele Issel and Kathy Baldwin received a five year HRSA grant entitled Keeping RNs to Improve and Strengthen Population Health (KRISP). They are joined by co-i's Judy Storfjell and Laura Szalacha.

Tonda Hughes
, grant entitled Cumulative Stress and Hazardous Drinking in a Community Sample of Lesbians, NIH/NIAAA, co-investigators: Timothy Johnson, PhD Alicia Matthews (UIC); Laura Szalacha, PhD (Arizona State University); Sharon Wilsnack, PhD (University of North Dakota).

Lorna Finnegan, NCI RO1 grant entitled Symptom Cluster Subgroups in Adult Survivors of Childhood Cancers. Carol Ferrans and Dick Campbell are co-investigators.

World Health Organization
The World Health Organization has just published a Compendium of Primary Care Case Studies (PDF) . The compendium highlights exemplars of primary care models that are "both interesting and illuminating." We are proud to announce that 4 of the 38 case studies are UIC College of Nursing programs. CCNE Accreditation Site Visit April 2009

Associate Dean for Nursing Science Studies Announcement

Dr. Barbara Dancy has been announced as the new Associate Dean for Nursing Science Studies. Dr. Dancy is a Professor in the Department of Health Systems Science. Her research focuses on the development and testing of innovative, culturally sensitive, HIV-risk reduction programs for vulnerable, underserved populations.

American Academy of Nursing Honors UIC Faculty and Alumni
Dr. Judy Storfjell and Dr. Julie Zerwic were inducted into the American Academy of Nursing at the 35th Annual Meeting and Conference held on November 6-8, 2008. Dr. Helen Grace, (Dean 1977-82), was honored as a Living Legend at the event. Sheila Dinotshe Tlou (PhD '90) and Naeema Al-Gasseer (MS '87, PhD '90) were honored with 2008 President's Awards.
