CCNE Accreditation Site Visit April 2009
The UIC College of Nursing hosted an on-site evaluation visit from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) from April 20-22, 2009.

INSPIRE Award
Congratulations to CON staff member Tracy Bartholomew who has been selected to receive a 2009 INSPIRE Award.

Gerry Gorman was selected by the American Red Cross of Greater Chicago to receive a 2009 Hero Award. (03/09)

Tonda Hughes was appointed  as an Honorary Professorial Fellow at the University of Melbourne. (02/09)

Associate Dean for Nursing Science Studies Announcement
Dr. Barbara Dancy has been announced as the new Associate Dean for Nursing Science Studies. Dr. Dancy is a Professor in the Department of Health Systems Science. Her research focuses on the development and testing of innovative, culturally sensitive, HIV-risk reduction programs for vulnerable, underserved populations.

American Academy of Nursing Honors UIC Faculty and Alumni
Dr. Judy Storfjell and Dr. Julie Zerwic were inducted into the American Academy of Nursing at the 35th Annual Meeting and Conference held on November 6-8, 2008. Dr. Helen Grace, (Dean 1977-82), was honored as a Living Legend at the event. Sheila Dinotshe Tlou (PhD '90) and Naeema Al-Gasseer (MS '87, PhD '90) were honored with 2008 President's Awards.

Kamal El Deirawi received an MNRS New Investigator Seed Grant for his study “A ntioxidant Levels of Mothers and their Children.” (01/09)

Patrick Robinson has been awarded a Nurse Educator Fellowship for 2009 and has been selected to receive a 2009 Teaching Recognition Program award from the Council for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL). (01/09)

Jean Berry and Lowryannne Vick received the award for best poster in innovation and/or collaboration in practice at the 5th
International Council of Nurses International Nurse Practitioner/Advanced Nursing Network (INPAPNN) conference. (11/08)

Kathy Baldwin (PhD '92, MS '78) and Michele Issel received the prestigious 2008 Lillian Wald Service Award from the Public Health Nursing Section of the American Public Health Association. (11/08)
