Our Mission

The mission of the UIC Occupational Health Nursing Program is to protect and promote the occupational health and safety of all workers through education, research, and service:

  • Education - Deliver a quality academic and research training program in a stimulating and nurturing interdisciplinary learning environment that prepares occupational health nursing leaders for a complex and dynamic global workplace.
  • Research - Promote the health and safety of workers and the quality and cost effectiveness of occupational health services through scholarly research and dissemination that are theory driven and that contribute to the knowledge base in our field.
  • Service - Promote the health and safety of workers and the quality and cost effectiveness of occupational health services through consultation, technical assistance, and program delivery.

Accomplishing our mission requires the availability of highly skilled occupational health nursing professionals with the ability to design, deliver, and evaluate quality, cost effective occupational health services. Our mission is guided by a principle-centered philosophy that respects and recognizes the unique contributions of all of our community members. Our community includes our students, the faculty, practicing occupational health professionals, target worker populations, workplaces, and organizations.
