Teaching

Part of our mission as nursing faculty practitioners at the Integrated Healthcare Centers is to enhance student learning. At the centers, we teach undergraduate and graduate nursing students and provide consultation for other students and faculty who want to learn about integrated health care. Our undergraduate students are learning about mental health nursing. Our graduate students are preparing themselves to assume roles as advanced practice nurses, either as family nurse practitioners or as psychiatric clinical nurse specialists.

We include discussions about evidence-based practice in all of our teaching activities at the Integrated Healthcare Centers. As our example for evidence-based practice, we chose diabetes management in the context of serious and persistent illness. We developed clinical practice guidelines for implementation in our centers and then designed a learning module based on the guidelines for our students to use. We invite you to use the module to enhance your own learning.
