Principles of Epidemiology

Introduction to descriptive and analytic epidemiology, determinants of health and disease in populations and application of the epidemiologic method to disease control; includes use of basic epidemiologic software

EPID 403

Introduction to Epidemiology: Principles and Methods

Introduction to descriptive and analytic epidemiology, and determinants of health and disease in populations. Measures of occurrence, association and statistical testing will be addressed along with study designs, bias, and confounding.

BHIS 510

Health Care Information Systems I

Examination through case studies, discussion, and problem-based learning of current information technologies and systems currently in place and on the horizon, in health care organizations and in health science libraries.

Application of evidence-based practice to healthcare delivery system and clinical issues. Emphasizes integration of retrieved evidence with client preferences to design and evaluate best practices.

Promoting Health: Translating Science to Health Practice

This course examines theories and models of health promotion, disease prevention, and teaching/learning for their application to direct care and systems-focused nursing practice. Integration of these theories with evidence-based practice at all levels (individual, family, systems and populations) is stressed. Material will include application of the theories and models to the academic and clinical practice settings.

Advanced Nursing Leadership Concepts

Students synthesize theoretical leadership concepts with personal and professional values in relation to advanced nursing practice. Emphasis is on working with multiple disciplines and leading multiple constituencies. Issues of power, creativity, innovation, ethics, communication, negotiation, conflict management, and resource use are addressed.

Strategic Planning and Outcomes Evaluation for Clinical Programs
Analysis of trends and issues affecting health care systems are reviewed in the context of planning appropriate strategies for the development and growth of clinical programs and services. This includes designing specific program strategies, identifying methods to assure their implementation, and evaluation of outcomes.
