Financial Aid

We recommend all students begin by filing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid to be considered for federal grant, loan and work programs. Please follow the instructions at the UIC Office of Student Financial Aid's website.

Undergraduate & Graduate Scholarships

Awards through the College of Nursing are made on an academic year basis, and prospective and current students can apply for support by submitting a scholarship application. Students fill out one application and are matched with the best available funding.

Applications are evaluated on the basis of:

  • financial need
  • academic achievement
  • leadership

Gertrude E. Skelly Charitable Foundation Emergency Fund

Undergraduate and graduate nursing students (full and part-time) who are faced with an unforeseen financial emergency beyond their control that puts their education at risk, can apply for emergency assistance. Applications are reviewed on an as-needed basis. Click here to learn more. For questions, please email: conskellyfund@uic.edu.

Graduate Student Research Fellowships

Training opportunities for pre and post-doctoral students are also available. Stipends, tuition waivers, benefits, etc. vary based on the program. Visit their web sites for more information and how to apply.

Teaching/Research/Graduate Assistantships

Assistantships are awarded by individual faculty members and academic departments. Stipends vary based on percent of time appointed. Appointments between 25% and 67% receive a base tuition and service fee waiver. Students interested in an assistantship should check with their advisor and department. Assistantships are also advertised within the college.

PLEASE NOTE: Not all assistanships cover tuition differential. Please check with the department offering the assistantship to find out what it covers.

Effective 2002, the University adopted an Educational Assitance Plan, complying with the Internal Revenue Code Section 127, which excludes the value of graduate-level tuition waivers from taxable income up to $5,250 per year.
