Graduate Entry Program (GEP)
applicants with a baccalaureate degree in another field
Program Description
The Graduate Entry Program is a direct entry into the UIC College of Nursing Master's of Science in Nursing. The program is designed for individuals with a baccalaureate degree in a field other than nursing, who wish to become a registered nurse and an advanced practice nurse in one of the offered specialties. The program begins every January at the Chicago campus with a highly intensive, 15-month full-time program (pre-licensure portion) which prepares students to take the National Council Licensing Examination - Registered Nurse (NCLEX-RN). After successful completion of the NCLEX-RN exam, students are licensed and are able to practice as an RN. The following term, students begin their Advanced Practice Specialty Curriculum. Specialties are selected during the application process. Review our specialty areas.
Location and Curriculum
The Pre-licensure curriculum is only available in Chicago and is a fulltime in-person program. We recommend that students do not work during this first 15 months. The Specialty curriculum is available at all regional sites (Chicago, Peoria, Rockford, Quad-Cities, and Urbana) and can be completed fulltime or part-time. The specialty curriculum is delivered in a blended format. Students participate in online, in-person, and blended courses. Students may work as an RN during the specialty curriculum.
