3. Minimum GPA of 3.00/4.00
The minimum GPA is on the final 60 semester (90 quarter) hours of the baccalaureate degree. Courses taken after completion of baccalaureate degree do not change this GPA. However, all grades are taken into consideration when reviewing an application. Calculate your GPA

4. GRE (Graduate Record Examination) General Test
The GRE is (automatically) waived for applicants with a 3.25/4.00 cumulative GPA in their most recently completed (baccalaureate or graduate) degree. Applicants with less than a 3.25/4.00 in their most recent degree are required to submit official GRE scores by the application deadline.

  • There is no formal request or application for the GRE waiver. Applicants who do not have a 3.25/4.00 GPA from their most recently completed degree should plan to submit GRE scores.
  • The cumulative GPA is based on all course work completed for the most recently completed degree and will not be recalculated (see official transcript for final GPA). Courses completed after the most recent awarded degree cannot be used toward qualifying for the GRE waiver.
  • No preference will be given during the application review process to applicants who qualify for the GRE waiver and have submitted (or plan to submit) GRE scores.
  • Applicants to the MS/MPH and MS/Health Informatics joint-degree programs are required to take the GRE regardless of GPA.
  • Applicants to the MS/MBA joint-degree program are required to take the GMAT. Only applicants to the MS/MBA who do not qualify for the Nursing GRE waiver may submit GMAT scores in lieu of the GRE.

Please visit www.gre.org for more information on the GRE exam. Interested in taking a GRE prep course? The following organizations offer courses on the UIC campus: Kaplan GRE Prep Course and Getter Better Scores, Inc.

5. Choice of Specialty
Applicants to the Graduate Entry Program (GEP), must select a specialization at the time of application. You are applying to a specific specialty and your application is reviewed with faculty in that specialization. Please take time to research the roles in your specialty. Here is a list of our specialty areas.

6. Interview
Interviews are conducted by faculty members in the selected specialty area. (Not all applicants will be selected for an interview.)

7. International Students:
TOEFL is required for applicants whose native language is other than English with a minimum score of 550 (paper based) or 213 (computer based). For the TOEFL IBT scores, the minimums are Writing-21, Speaking-20, Listening-17, Reading-19 and total score-80. Please note that TOEFL scores over two years old are invalid. Upon being recommended for admission, evidence of financial support for the first year is also required by the Office of International Services.

Visit the Office of Admissions and Records' International Admission Requirements website for further details about the information above.

Background Check and Drug Testing

All students will be required to have a background check and drug test upon admission. If the results of either requirement indicate that the student would not be eligible for placement at the College's practicum agencies, the student's admission will be rescinded. Students may be required to repeat either requirement should the practicum agency require more frequent testing. If at any time during the period of enrollment, the student's background check or drug test results preclude placement in a practicum agency, the student will be required to withdraw from the program. At time of application for licensure students will be required to submit fingerprinting and be reviewed for eligibility by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR).
