Graduate Entry Program (GEP): Degree Requirements

The Graduate Entry program is divided into two parts. The first part is the Pre-RN licensure component. The pre-licensure component is 15 months (four semesters starting in January 2009 and ending in May 2010). It is only available at the Chicago campus and is only available on a full time basis. It is HIGHLY recommended that students do not work during this first 15 months. It is extremely intensive coursework and students will be in class 25-35 hours per week. After successful completion of this coursework students will be eligible to sit for RN licensure (NCLEX).

Graduate Entry Program - Pre-RN Licensure Curriculum:

After successful completion of the RN licensure exam(NCLEX) students begin Master's coursework in their chosen specialty area. The Master's coursework can be done a full time or part time basis and working as an RN is strongly encouraged. Students must declare their specialty option with their application.

UIC offers a variety of specialty options that are part of three departments:

Maternal Child Nursing (MCN)

Medical Surgical Nursing (MSN)

Public Health Mental Health and Administrative Nursing (PMA)

Following is a list of required courses for the second component of the program. After successful completion of these courses students are awareded a MS degree. Consult the course catalog for course descriptions.
