Program Requirements

Predoctoral (Post-Master's Degree or BSN to PhD Program)

Progress on the following items will be reviewed each year and continued support will be dependent upon a satisfactory review.

  • Core requirements for doctoral study at UIC (64 hours beyond the master's degree)
  • Register every term for a full-time course of study
    (If requesting a Graduate College waiver: 12 credit hours minimum fall and spring terms; 6 credit hours minimum summer term)
    (Otherwise 9 credit hours minimum fall and spring terms; 5 credit hours minimum summer term)
  • Register for and attend NUSC585 (Research Seminar on Genomics) every fall and spring term
  • Register for and attend the following graduate level courses or their equivalent
    • NUSC594 Basic Clinical Immunology & Genetics
    • Human Physiology
    • Biochemistry
  • Submit an application for an Individual National Research Service Award (F31) by the end of second year of support

Postdoctoral

Progress on the following items will be reviewed each year and continued support will be dependent upon a satisfactory review.

  • Attend NUSC585 ( Research Seminar on Genomics) every fall and spring term
  • Register for and attend NUSC594 (Basic Clinical Immunology & Genetics)
  • Attend 2 specialty research seminars series each year (e.g. journal clubs, department seminars)
  • Submit an application for an Individual National Research Service Award (F32) by the end of first year of support
  • Submit an application for an NIH R01 by the end of third year of support
  • Provide professional presentations of research at annual scientific meetings
