The Chicago Health and Life Experiences of Women Study (CHLEW) builds on the National Study of Health and Life Experiences of Women that began in 1981. The national study has collected data from nearly 2000 mostly heterosexual women. Information from our study on lesbians will be compared with the findings from women in national study to identify similarities and differences between lesbians and heterosexual women.

Between March 2000 and September 2001 we interviewed nearly 450 women for the first phase of the CHLEW study. You may best view examples of our preliminary findings of how the results will be reported in Microsoft Power Point. Click here to view findings from 2000-2001.

The second round of interviews took place in 2003-2004 (with a few in 2005). We were able to locate and interview 384 (about 86%) of the women first interviewed in 2000-2001. Click here to view a Microsoft Power Point file of preliminary findings from 2003-2004.

Now that we have successfully completed the second round of interviews for the CHLEW study we are beginning to plan for future follow-up studies. It is extremely important that we be able to stay in contact with the original study participants. Continued funding, and the overall value and impact of the study, will depend on being able to contact and interview as many of the women who were in the first and second phases of the study as possible.
