The proprietors of the district paid special attention to the condition of
infrastructure. According to their own publication, "Many of the streets
in the District are private streets which have been improved with cement
curbs, cement sidewalks, substantial granite block, brick or macadam
roadways, and, wherever possible, wide grass parkways have been put in."
The contrast here with the previous condition of Iron street seen in the last picture is illustrative of the change, ushered in by the Central Manufacturing District, in the conception of what an industrial area is composed of.
