This is an example of an early apartment building near Stearns' Quarry.
Quite a number of similar buildings are scattered about the area. Multiple
family housing buildings became popular (in the period known as the "flat
craze") around 1881 -- right about the time Bridgeport began its biggest
building boom. Bridgeport housing, in terms of the number of dwellings,
is fairly evenly divided among the various building sizes --
single-family, four-family, etc. Only two-family/double-flats stand out as
a leading type.
