This view, looking east down Fuller (formerly Bridge) street, peers down
one of the streets that make up the triangle (Bridge-Archer-Lock) that was
the heart of old Bridgeport. The Illinois and Michigan Canal origin was at
this end. At the far east end of Bridge street was the Bridgeport school;
Saint Bridget church was also near there. To the right of the picture is
Lock street. Near it were the Joliet and Chicago railroad depot and the
terminal of the Chicago City railway's Archer Road horse car route, as
well as the Archer Road bridge and the Union Rolling Mills, which was
located across the South Fork. Note that, similar to Eleanor street,
industry is found on one side of the street, since the South Fork of the
South Branch is nearby.
