The Chancellors Committee on the Status of
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Issues

The mission of the Committee is to provide leadership on lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender issues in UIC communities. This includes addressing needs of staff, faculty, students and alumni of diverse sexual orientations. The goal is to enhance a supportive environment which will foster full participation by all members of the university's communities in teaching, public service, and research.

ACADEMIC AFFAIRS SUBCOMMITTEE

Description: The Academic Affairs Subcommittee organizes and supports events and activities that focus on scholarship, faculty research and development, and the learning environment at UIC. Typical events include visiting lectures, faculty brown-bag presentations, scholarship awards, research initiatives, surveys of campus expertise, and the like.

Ad Hoc Committee on Scholarship Selection & Fundraising

2004-2005 Goals:
--- Support academic and cultural programming on campus.

--- Develop, implement, and finalize the '100 for 100' Scholarship Fundraising Campaign for annual student scholarships.
--- Market the CCSLGBTI and the Academic Affairs Subcommittee on campus so that people know co-sponsorship and co-funding opportunities exist.

NETWORKING AND ADVOCACY SUBCOMMITTEE

Description: The Networking and Advocacy Subcommittee organizes and supports events and activities that focus on student issues, coordinating with campus groups, mentoring students, helping network with employers, and building stronger ties with alumni.

2004-2005 Goals:
--- Coordinate with other campus groups to work on student issues.

--- Develop mentoring opportunities with students.

--- Help students network with employers.

--- Increase the involvement of and interaction with UIC Alumni.

POLICY SUBCOMMITTEE

Description: The Policy Subcommittee organizes and supports events and activities that focus on all areas of employee equity, including pay and benefits, the campus climate, and other conditions in the workplace.

Organization: The subcommittee will set up one ad hoc committee:

Ad Hoc Committee Nomination Committee

2004-2005 Goals:
--- Use the data from last year's Campus Climate Survey to develop interventions and policies that address campus climate problems.

--- Include LGBT issues in the General Education Requirements for undergraduate students.

--- Achieve equitable implementation of domestic partner benefits by working with UI and UIC human resource personnel.

--- Develop and recommend non-discrimination policies that address all aspects of campus life.
